SHARK ATTACKS IN HELLENIC SEAS REPORTED CASES OF SHARK ATTACKS IN HELLAS (GREECE) THE START OF THE RESEARCHWhile reading in newspapers, magazines and books about shark attacks on humans, which had taken place in the Hellenic (Greek) seas, I realised that although anumber of attacks were referred to, nowhere were there reliable statistics about these attacks. In addition discovered there appeared to be nosingle research paper containing the details of each attack. Arado Seaplane WW2

Arado 196 WW2 …Sometime between May – October 1982, the Piraeus-registered fishing boat “ROBINSON”, NP1377, commanded by Naxian captain Sarantis Economou (†2003), snagged its drag net on the wreck of a German seaplane at a approximately 36° 49’N, 25° 22’E. This unbelievable “catch” occurred at a depth of 50 fathoms (~91m), north-northeast of Ios island, heading towards to Heraclea. Marianna Shipwreck

On 24th July 1981 the cargo ship Marianna with capacity 2.999 freight tons filled with barley, iron sheets, water pipes – irrigation and fertilizers collided with a reef, now known as Amara, filled with water and sank. Its construction was completed on October 1 of the same year with number 260 at the Noord Nederlandse Scheepswerven Shipyards in Groningen, the Netherlands on behalf of N. V.
